Hospitals get “A” grades

Three area hospitals are getting top marks for patient safety. UPMC Altoona, UPMC Bedford, and Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center all received “A”s from a national organization called the Leapfrog Group.

It rates hospitals for their efforts to protect patients from harm and for meeting the highest safety standards in the United States.

UPMC President Jerry Murray says the grade should comfort  patients about the quality of the care they’re receiving.

Both local UPMC hospitals held celebrations  with their employees today to mark the occasion. Fifteen hospitals in the UPMC system are among 855 in the nation receiving an A grade.
