Honoring K9 Officer Lily

Area law enforcement gathered today to honor the memory of a former officer.

Blair County’s original K9 Officer Lily passed away recently, at the age of 14.

Today’s ceremony of remembrance took place at the Blair County Courthouse.

It’s where K9 Officer Lily was honored today for her service to the county and the country.

Before the service, a short procession, K9 Officer Lily’s final call, escorted her remains to the courthouse.

The Sheriff’s Department and other Blair County law enforcement agencies, as well as the Military gathered for her final tribute.

She received a 21-gun salute, taps were played in her honor, and a bagpiper played amazing grace.

Sheriff James Ott says she served her community well.

K9 Officer Lily was not only a veteran of law enforcement in Blair County, she  also served her country in Iraq and Afghanistan.

“When I say community not just here in Blair County, but four tours in the military running with the Green Beret, the many finds and explosives she worked with and apprehensions that she had and then the five years with us, is the very least we could do for her,” said Blair County Sheriff, James Ott.

Sheriff Ott says Officer Lily did an incredible job for the county.

We’re told she was also credited with discovering more than 700 IEDs during her military tours and saving the lives of countless soldiers.
