Demolition of an apartment building that burned down last year started Monday, but some residents are concerned it’s hurting their health.
People who live near the structure on Bedford and Newry Street in Hollidaysburg said they didn’t even know it was happening until they saw the smoke and debris.
Lisa Sommers said it’s especially concerning for her because she has a weakened immune system and certain smells can cause her to have a seizure.
“It is very concerning for the entire neighborhood,” Sommers told us. “For dogs being tethered outside, the nursing home down the street and I certainly don’t want to breathe that.”
Sommers reached out to the Hollidaysburg Borough and she said they didn’t give her a timeline on how long this will take.
