The Blair County Community Action Program along with volunteers are fighting homelessness in our area.

Members are going into communities to help get homeless people off the streets and provide them shelter. The goal is to not only work towards getting them permanent housing in the future, but to accurately assess the situation in the county.

Organizers say they rely on volunteers to help them find the places people may be staying, that they might have missed.

“Because they live in a specific area of the county, they know exactly where somebody may be or have been living in that spot,” stated Sergio Carmona, Executive Director of Blair County Community Action, and added “Whether it’s a tent in somebody’s backyard, or whether it’s a garage that somebody has let somebody borrow.”

The group will be traveling along pre-planned routes Wednesday night from 7 p.m. until 9:30 p.m.
