Students at Greater Johnstown High School are stepping up to raise awareness about suicide.
They started the Laurel Highlands Semicolon Project to raise awareness and money for the Yellow Ribbon Campaign, an educational program about suicide prevention taught in local schools.
The t-shirts feature a semicolon to remind people that their story isn’t over. The shirts also have the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 1-800-273-TALK (8255).
“It’s something new that they haven’t done before and it’s bringing it to the forefront, which was the goal of the kids when they started it,” said Marlene Singer, the Community Health Coordinator for Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center.
At least four school districts from three different counties have bought shirts. The students plan to wear them throughout the year.
You can purchase a t-shirt by visiting this website or by emailing: msinger@conemaugh.org.
