Drivers who ignore Pennsylvania’s ‘steer clear’ law will face harsher penalties beginning in September.

The law requires drivers to put at least one lane of space between themselves and an emergency response area, along the side of the road, when possible.

If drivers cannot move over because of traffic or other conditions, they must slow down.

The new legislation to crack down on repeat offenders starts with a $250 fine.

If repeated, fines go up to $1,000 and a 90 day suspension.
