RAVE stands for Resist Alcohol, Violence and Experimentation.
During the event, kids play sports, listen to music or just hang out with friends. More than 100 students usually attend the RAVEs.
The Cambria County Drug & Prevention Coalition donated $1,100 to the school to start the program. The idea is to give kids something fun and safe to do.
“Basically, it’s just a party. It’s time we get to spend with the kids on a Friday night. Get them off the streets where mischief may ensue. Instead, we can get them to a safe environment with people they trust and know are invested in their success,” said Rob Heinrich, the principal of the 9th Grade Success Academy.
The RAVE runs from 7-10 p.m. Friday night at the Greater Johnstown High School.
