CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — Wednesday, Governor Tom Wolf visited Centre County to talk about the Restore Pennsylvania Initiative.
That program has several goals, including expanding broadband access in rural areas.
Governor Wolf says the lack of broadband causes problems for everyone from rural businesses owners, to local students.
He wants to pay for more broadband networks by imposing a gas severance tax.
Recent statistics show that more than 6% of Pennsylvania’s population, about 800,000 people, don’t have access to broadband.
Most of them are concentrated in rural areas.
