Governor Tom Wolf unveiled a proposal for millions of dollars in investment in the state’s agriculture industry today.

Speaking at a dairy farm in Hershey, the governor announced his $24 million Pennsylvania Farm Bill proposal.

The proposal includes $2 million to establish an Agricultural Business Development Center. It would create more processing capabilities and remove some regulations. It also invests a million dollars in increasing awareness of agriculture, to get younger people interested in farming as a career.

“We need to think about increasing opportunities for our agricultural workforce,” said Governor Wolf. “There are going to be over 75,000 job vacancies in agriculture in the food industries just in the next ten years. We need to be aware of that, and we need to do something about that.”

Lawmakers say they are already planning hearings in the House and Senate in order to craft legislation.
