A technology powerhouse is coming to Johnstown.
Google is offering a free workshop for businesses in Cambria County on how to build a website and grow their online presence.
“On the technical side, behind the scenes of how can they get their website more visible to people, potential customers and those types of details. What better group to learn from than Google?” said John Dubnansky, the Cambria County grant writer.
Dubnansky got in touch with Google employees through the Bridge to Pittsburgh initiative, an effort to connect technology and manufacturing companies in Cambria County to the booming information technology industry in the Steel City.
“They’ve learned more about what we’re trying to do here in Johnstown and Cambria County areas as far as working together and trying to help improve our local economy, our local businesses. Google is a community-minded organization. I think that’s why they gravitated towards the idea of coming to Johnstown,” Dubnansky said.
More than 50 businesses have already signed up for the workshop, which will be the first of many.
“It’s a great opportunity to work with leaders in the field,” said Mike Artim, the president and CEO of the Greater Johnstown/Cambria County Chamber of Commerce. “We’re starting off with this initial seminar, and if it’s successful, they’ll continue to come in and work with us and our local businesses.”
The workshop will take place on Monday, October 14 from 4-6 pm at Bottleworks Ethnic Arts Center in the Cambria City section of Johnstown.
“We’re matching up a world-wide renowned company like Google with our local businesses, so nothing but good can come from that,” Dubnansky said.
If you would like to attend the workshop, you can register by contacting the Greater Johnstown/Cambria County Chamber of Commerce by calling (814) 536-5107 or visiting their website.
