It’s Asian style, mostly perennials,” Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art Ambassador Recie Dolan said. “In the way it was set up with the blocks the way they were placed in a Zen kind of way.”
Dolan is the guiding force behind the unique garden outside the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art in Bedford.
I did it because I’m an ambassador for the museum and i wanted to raise money for the museum, Dolan said. “But i wanted it to be meaningful to so many people who may not have the basic info about what an art museum is or does.”
You can enter the garden from the street without ever going into the galleries, but that’s now your best vantage point.
“You can appreciate it from anywhere but up in the porches you can look down and see the beautify of it,” she said.
The garden is named in memory of Mouse Myers Grass, a Bedford County Artist and Gardener who was influential in the lives of Dolan and other local artists. The works of Mous, as she’s known will be featured in a show at the gallery.
Dolan believes her mentor would have a special regard for the garden created and named in her honor.
She was very humble and didn’t like pretension,” Doland said. “She would love knowing people could come in through the alley any time and see this beautiful garden.”
The garden was designed by well-known Blair County Artist and Garden Michael Strueber.
