Bishop Guilfoyle 8th grader Kyle Colombo is used to making baskets, but even he couldn’t imagine what happened Monday night.

“Two seconds were left and Coach Adams put up a play,” Kyle told us. “It wasn’t supposed to be for me so I just improvised a little bit and hit the shot.”

The basketball team was down by two points. There were seconds left on the clock. Kyle got the pass, shot the ball and the buzzer went off. He sunk the winning shot from beyond the half-court line.

“I can’t even put it into words,” Kyle said. “It’s just so great. It’s going to impact my life forever.”

The final score was 38-37.

However, Kyle didn’t win alone. He had a lot of help from his teammates.

Vincent Cioffari was the one who passed the winning shot.

“I just stood there amazed,” Vincent said. “It was amazing.”

The boys told us the play was originally meant for AJ, but a last minute decision left the fate of the game up to Kyle.

“Put it in our best shooters hands, Kyle,” AJ smiled. “He took one dribble and put it up. I threw up a prayer, but it went in. It was a great shot.”

Everyone watched in disbelief, showing just how important every second of a game can be.

“It felt like it was in the air for 30 seconds,” Coach Duke Adams, explained. “It’s overwhelming, it really is.”

Kyle said it may have been just one shot, but it means a lifetime of memories.

“It’s something I’m never going to forget,” Kyle said. “I’m always going to remember it.”

Not only was it an amazing shot, but it was also the last game of the season.
