Friends and family hold candlelight vigil for murder victim

It has been nearly a week since a Huntingdon County woman was shot and killed by her boyfriend.

Police said it was last Monday night. Mark Lemin pulled on a gun a Kayla Ruby at a home along Sawdust Drive in Carbon Township. He then called 911 before turning the gun on himself.

Their 2-month-old son was in the home when officers got there.

Sunday night the community came together to honor the 20-year-old. She was a person people described as being the sweetest girl you’d ever meet.

“She was definitely the light of our lives and her family’s lives,” Faith Batchelor, one of Ruby’s friends, said.

Friends said she was the light of their world. They told us the good times still shine, like the time Alicia Weicht got to do a photo shoot with Ruby.

“That meant the world to her,” Weicht said. “To just get out and take these pictures, it meant the world.”

She is missed by many, but Ruby will not be forgotten.

It may be hard to say goodbye, but the memories will live on.

“She was probably one of my most fun friends to be around and always had some adventure to get into,” Batchelor said. “She loved her outdoors. Hunting and fishing and riding four wheelers.”

In a way, there’s some peace for friends and family knowing Ruby is flying high, watching over her loved ones.
