Many free clinics have been shutdown in Houston after Hurricane Harvey, and a sister in clinic in Centre County wants to help.

Centre Volunteers of Medicine in State College says free clinics rely heavily on community support.

And those in Houston will need a lot of help to bounce back from the damage.

But if you’re going to donate, Cheryl White, Exec. Dir., of CVM, said make sure your source is reliable.

White said during a crisis, scammers try to take advantage of the situation and manipulate donation sites.

The clinic urges people find transparent resources you can trust.

“I think people like to give on social media because of the ‘Donate Now’ button. It’s quick and it’s easy but do they know where the money is going and how much of their dollar is actually supporting the cause they donate to,” White said.
