A former Johnstown police officer pleaded guilty on Tuesday to stealing drugs from a temporary evidence locker.

William Slisz pleaded guilty to burglary and tampering with evidence after stealing heroin in September of 2016 and attempting to break into the police department’s evidence room.

Slisz was later found unconscious and revived with Narcan. Police said he started stealing evidence in 2015 after developing a heroin addiction.

Slisz said in court that he’s been sober and drug free for 16 months.

“He’s presented himself for treatment, followed up on that recommended treatment and appears to be doing well at this time,” Slisz’s attorney Art McQuillan said.

Slisz’s sentencing is scheduled for March 8. He could face up to 18 months in prison.
