A former area police officer is headed to trial on corruption charges. Former Johnstown police detective Daniel Fisher Jr. waived his preliminary hearing on Monday. Fisher was arrested and put on administrative leave last month.
He faces three misdemeanors including hindering prosecution and providing false information. The state attorney general’s office filed charges saying that Fisher interfered numerous times to reduce or eliminate drunk driving and public drunkenness charges against a female confidential informant that he was having a sexual relationship with. According to the attorney general’s office, the informant referred to fisher as her boyfriend to law enforcement officials.
Fisher resigned from the Johnstown Police Department, after he was arrested. His attorney says Fisher is no longer interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement.
