An effort is underway  to protect more area residents from the flu. Walmart stores throughout the country, including in our region, are offering flu shots as part of an overall wellness event on Saturday, January 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All you need to do is go to the produce area in your local store–that’s where the health and wellness activities will be taking place.

“The flu season starts in October, but it peaks between December and February, so right now we’re getting to the point where it’s getting to the highest level here at our peak,  but we still do have time to get everybody protected,” explains Tim Kraft, Pharmacy Clnical Services Manager at the Altoona Walmart.

Kraft adds that says most people’s health insurance pays for flu shots, but if you’re not covered, the doses at Walmart start out at $39.

While you’re there getting your flu shot, you can also get a free vision screening, as well as free  cholesterol,  blood sugar, and blood pressure screening.
