Ferguson Township is using recent community feedback to help make travel safer for drivers and pedestrians.
Multiple projects are being looked at including a shared-use path for bikers and hikers, and new pull off areas for buses along Martin Street.
These suggestions come after crash studies showed nearly 250 accidents happened in the Northland area between 2013 and 2018.
Township officials say these numbers may be impacted by traffic.
Ron Seybert, a Ferguson Township engineer says that there is “a lot of activity…if you think of the amount of cars that are on Martin and North Atherton Street particularly, and then the concentration of pedestrians and bicyclists in that area commuting to and from campus, or doing retail shopping…yeah, it’s one of our busier areas.”
One potential project to keep traffic moving is a flashing yellow turn arrow at the Blue Course Drive and Martin Drive intersection.
This is a new type of signal in Pennsylvania, and if approved, it would be the first of its kind in Centre County.
Township officials say work could start on any of the projects next year, but they first need to be approved by Township supervisors.
