Ferguson Township Police responded to an attempted suicide at Tudek Park.

Police got a call for help at Tudek Park early this morning. A 23-year-old man called 911 to report that he was at the park with a gun, intending to harm himself.

Officers from Ferguson Township, Penn State and State College Police cleared the area to make sure no one visiting the park was in danger. Trained negotiators were trying to help the victim when he shot himself. He was conscious and alert when he was taken to a trauma center.

Ferguson Township Police wants to remind the community how important it is to ask for help if you or someone you know is in despair and considering suicide. This time of year can be extremely hard for people experiencing mental health challenges, especially with finals, graduations, and the holidays.
