A Suboxone clinic in Cambria County was raided by federal agents Wednesday. However, it’s unclear what the investigators were looking for.

Federal officials “executed a Federal search warrant” at SKS Associates, Inc. located at 2001 Bedford Street just outside of Johnstown City limits.

United States Attorney Scott W. Brady for the Western District of Pennsylvania issued the following statement:

“On Wednesday, April 11, 2018, Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Drug Enforcement Administration, Department of Health and Human Services, Office of the Inspector General, and Internal Revenue Service – Criminal Investigation executed a Federal search warrant at 2001 Bedford Street, Johnstown, PA 15904 as part of an ongoing investigation.”

Patrick Trainor, a supervisory special agent with the DEA Philadelphia Field Division, could not comment on this specific investigation. However he said typical investigations into Suboxone clinics involve the illegal prescribing, abuse or selling of Suboxone, a drug commonly used in the treatment of opioid addiction.

“There is a huge demand for Suboxone illicitly and we have seen cases in Pennsylvania where we have targeted Suboxone clinics for the criminal distribution of Suboxone,” Trainor told WTAJ. “We have seen in our experience, Suboxone programs that don’t always act within standard medical practice and often divert Suboxone, which can be abused or sold for profit.”

Trainor noted that each dose of Suboxone can be sold illegally for $5-$10 and that money can then be used to purchase heroin.
