The Transition Expo is taking place on Tuesday, October 31st to assist families that have children with disabilities.
Organizers say because of the amount of resources that will be available at the expo, this could ease the burden for families looking for assistance after their child leaves high school.
Stephanie Onkst from the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation explained, “We are trying to reach out an prepare students for the next step which is figuring out how to get the services that you need after you leave high school.”
The expo will have vendors who offer resources as well as employers that work with those with disabilities. A panel will also be held to answer questions that families or students may have.
Elizabeth Hogue from the Southern Alleghenies Service Management said, “They’re going to be an adult and they’re going to need more help and more guidance in finding the different resources available to them. So, parents are going to need to work harder so we are providing them the resources to help them work harder. “
The expo is designed to help anyone who has an Individual Education Plan at any ability level. Registration closes on October 26th and can be completed for free on The Arc of Blair County website. Lunch is included.
