The International Student Organization at Penn State Altoona hosted its first ever Toon Talk on Wednesday.

It’s an event modeled after the popular TED Talk series, designed to expose local students to speakers from all around the world.

Their first speaker was an international student visitng from Venezuela.

He gave an overview of Venezuelan economics and culture before discussing the crisis over calls from credible presidential elections and humanitarian aid.

“I think the news certain channels have done a great job explaining and showing what’s actually going on,” speaker Izzak Lustgarten said. “But something that the news doesn’t show and that it’s important to see is the amount of poor people and how hard it is to find basic things such as electricity, water, and food.

Penn State Altoona plans to host more of those Toona Talks in the future.
