Emergency crews respond to disaster drill at local airport

Emergency crews in Cambria County prepared for a disaster at a local airport Saturday.

Firefighters, first responders, police, and EMA officials were on hand for the disaster simulation at the John Murtha Johnstown-Cambria County airport.

They practiced what to do in case of a deadly plane crash.

Boy scouts from a local troop even helped out by playing the victims.

“We’ll follow the exercise with a post-game critique meeting where we assess the strengths and weaknesses of the actual exercise and where we might be able to make improvements,” Thomas Keyes, the airport manager, said.

These full scale simulations of the airport’s emergency plan are required by the FAA every three years.
