The campaign signs are up, primary day is marked on the calenders and election officials are getting the ballots ready in hopes of a big turnout.

“If you’re out and you’re voting you will get who you want,” Debra Brown, Director of Elections in Bedford County, said.

Brown explained primary elections don’t see nearly as many voters as a presidential election, but this is the time your vote can have the most impact.

“In the presidential election we had a 70% turnout, which I thought was amazing,” she told us. “Then the following Spring we had like 25% and that was not a lot.”

Key leaders are running in this race, like state representatives and senators.

You get to pick who goes to the election in November. The ones you’re voting for are often responsible for giving your community a voice.

“Those are your go to people when you have a problem,” Brown said. “That’s who you can go to and get answers.”

Remember, the easiest way to have a voice is at the polls. Take a moment to cast your vote.

Polls open Tuesday at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.
