Ebensburg community lights the way for Santa’s sleigh

Each family has their own traditions on Christmas Eve, but one neighborhood tried something a little bit different to help the big guy and his reindeer safely land.

Neighbors on Highland Avenue in Ebensburg lit the way for Santa sleigh when he stopped at their houses Monday evening.

Hilary Yahner, an Ebensburg resident, started this tradition just a few weeks after she me and her family moved last year. She said she did this while growing up in Philadelphia, and her kids wanted to make sure Santa found them in their new house.

“When we moved, our kids were a little worried that Santa wouldn’t find our house, even though we had told them we had written him letters and given him notice that we had moved, we decided to light the way for Santa sleigh here, but we thought it was a great way to meet our neighbors,” Yahner said.

Parents and kids were outside lining the sidewalk with the paper lanterns and lighting candles.

“It’s like a little runway of sorts. It’s a little cloudy out tonight, and I’m sure Rudolph’s nose sometimes doesn’t shine through that, so hopefully our little runway lights here will lead him to where all the kiddos are,” Yahner said.

Some of those neighbors wanted to join in the fun this year and create a new tradition for the community for years to come.
