HARRISBURG, Pa (WTAJ) — Fighting the opioid epidemic has been big concern for state leaders over the last few years.
Now the question is being raised, could that battle actually be harming some patients?
On Wednesday, there was a “Don’t Punish Pain” rally at the state capitol.
Those who legally use opioids say because of restrictions, legal patients aren’t getting access to medications they need.
The CDC guidelines set in 2016, encourage doctors to prescribe lower doses of opioid pain medication.
Last month, the CDC said many physicians were guilty of misapplying those set guidelines.
The state department of health is planning to launch a patient advocacy program later this year, to help those who aren’t receiving the medication they need.
