When disaster strikes, it’s amazing to see how people come together.

It doesn’t matter the distance, communities near and far are doing whatever it takes to help those impacted by Florence.

“We have families here that have families there that need the help,” Jerry Volpe, from the DuBois Pennsylvania Humanitarian Riders Club, said. “So actually by us helping them, it’s helping our community.”

In the next couple of days, members of the DuBois Pennsylvania Humanitarian Riders Club are hoping to fill a trailer to bring to North Carolina.

“We’re just trying to get down there and help out the best we can,” Tim Loomis told us.

The group is looking for donations like non-perishable foods, cleaning supplies, personal hygiene products, and even pet supplies.

The items will be used by people cleaning up and rebuilding after Florence wreaked havoc. The deadly storm caused catastrophic flooding and power outages throughout the Carolinas.

“It was just horrible,” Volpe said. “I’m sure that if that was us, they would be coming up to help us out.”

The group will be collecting donations outside the DuBois Salvation Army on Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 a.m until 7 p.m.

They’ll make their way to North Carolina Thursday morning.
