Demonstrators from the group Indivisible Blair County held a peaceful rally against the proposed tax cuts.

Their chants echoed from outside of Congressman Bill Shuster’s office in Hollidaysburg.

The protestors were making their voices heard, expressing their concerns that the tax plan doesn’t grow the economy and only seems to benefit corporations and the upper class.

“The whole idea that if you put more money into corporation’s pockets at a time when the stock market is at a record high and somehow that will generate jobs and increase wages is absurd,” Thomas McCaffrey, one of the protestors, explained.

Signs read things like “tax scam.” Some even carried around fake checks made out to the wealthiest 1% for $275 billion.

“Even though they say they are going to help the middle class it really is not going to help the middle class in any way,” Mimi Graybill, who was also rallying against the proposed tax cuts, stated.

The group wants their efforts to start a conversation and bring light to the things they feel need to be fixed in the proposed plan. They also said reducing individual and corporate tax rates hasn’t worked in the past.

“We tried this before, this trickle down business, in four other administrations,” Frances Hugg, another protestor, expressed. “It doesn’t work. It just doesn’t work. Every major economist has said it doesn’t work.”

As the group marched up and down the streets, they’re standing up and speaking out, hoping their voices are heard.
