Decision reached in preliminary hearings for 7 former Beta Theta Pi brothers

A Centre County judge has came to a decision in the preliminary hearings for 7 former Beta Theta Pi brothers in relation to the hazing death of Penn State student and pledge Timothy Piazza.

Brendan Young, Daniel Casey, Jonah Neuman, Michael Bonatucci, Nicholas Kubera, and Joshua Kurczewski were all facing charges including involuntary manslaughter, recklessly endangering another person, and hazing.

Judge Carmine Prestia, Jr. ruled there was insufficient evidence to support the charges of involuntary manslaughter and recklessly endangering another person, but did bind the hazing charges over for trial.

Another brother, Braxton Becker, was facing charges of tampering with evidence, obstructing government function and hindering apprehension. All those charges have been dismissed due to the lack of evidence.

No trial date has been set.
