Criminal homicide charges have been dropped against the man accused of beating a woman to death in Cambria County.

Marcus Taczanowsky was accused of murdering 34-year-old Jessie Gordon.

Taczanowsky is still facing involuntary manslaughter, aggravated assault and public drunkenness charges.

In the ruling issued on December 28, a judge dismissed the charges of murder in the first, second and third degree and voluntary manslaughter, saying, “The Commonwealth has not met its pre-trial burden.”

The Cambria County District Attorney’s office filed a motion on December 31, 2018 asking the judge to reconsider.

Police said Taczanowsky punched and kicked Gordon in the head on November 13, 2017 inside her Westmont Borough apartment after he had been drinking.

Investigators said Gordon died on November 22 from blunt force head trauma caused by a physical assault. A hospital report noted that Gordon’s blood alcohol level was 0.24 when she was taken to the hospital on Nov. 13.

Taczanowsky is set to go to trial. Jury selection will begin on February 4.
