The Tribune Democrat is creating a book of Johnstown history and they want photos from members of the community.
The newspaper is inviting residents to submit photos taken in Johnstown from 1800 and 1939.
The first session was held Tuesday, at the Pennsylvania Highlands Community College, where residents brought in photos to be scanned.
One woman found a photo in her grandmother’s belongings of the first Barnum and Bailey Circus to visit Johnstown from around 1900.
“Well I hope they get a sense of their ancestry, get a sense of how people struggled to make Johnstown what it is today, so interesting to see how people lived,” Rose Wenderoth said.
Residents can send PDF or JPG files to the Tribune Democrat. They’re asking for a maximum of 10 photos.
You can also visit one of the two remaining scanning sessions in Johnstown – one Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Heritage Discovery Center and another Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Cambria County Library.
Advance copies of the book are selling for $30 and should ship in December.
