Fairview Cemetery in Altoona is overgrown.

There are weeds that cover the brick sidewalks, headstones that are toppled over, grass that covers graves, and a massive tree that uprooted in the middle of the cemetery.

“I just want to fix things,” Richard Bailey said. “I just want to make it better. We can’t let this part of Altoona go forgotten.”

It’s not going to be easy to clean it up, but Bailey is just one person that hopes the community will pull through.

“The care of the place has really lapsed,” he told us. “It’s not because people are not trying. It’s because we don’t have the time or the money is not there to do it.”

On June 30, Bailey and his fiance are trying to get a group together to make everything look a little bit nicer.

“You pay so much money for a plot and along with that plot comes the care of that particular area,” Bailey said.

The couple needs volunteers, but also donations like garbage bags and lawnmowers for the day.

If this cleanup goes well, the couple wants to help other cemeteries in the area.
