Some local folks honor a hometown hero and get an up close look at his mission during World War 2. A 96-year-old Huntingdon County man, a pilot in the Second World War was awarded the Silver Star for a mission he flew over Germany in February 1945.
On Saturday, folks gathered at the Madden Wennick Post 518 American Legion in Rockhill, to honor Dr. Joseph Stevens and for the first time, see the story of that heroic mission.
Then-Lieutenant Stevens was piloting a plane that was hit and suffered heavy damage, but he managed to strike his target anyway, and return his injured crew members to base safely.
The story of the mission is told in a short documentary created by the son of a pilot who flew with Stevens.
