Residents in Clearfield County have been trying to get their eyes on a roaming alligator.

The reptile has been swimming around the local sewage authority in Mineral Springs.

“The kids are getting a kick out of this,” Leslie Serena said. “Everybody is.”

Sewage treatment workers said the reptile could be up to 2’5″ long. It’s quite the site to see, drawing big crowds the last few days.

“We just want to keep checking on the alligator and making sure he’s alright,” Travesty Krupa told us. “This is the most excitement we have seen in Mineral Springs so we just come over every day to see what’s happening and if anything has changed.”

Traps have been sitting out along the gator’s so-called “swamp.” Officials have been working to catch him, but after several attempts he remains in the water.

“All these people were standing by the fence so I stopped and looked and we came over and there it was,” Cindy Welker said.

It has been fun having the creature around, but the increase in traffic has some people ready to say see you later to the alligator.

“I think that I agree with a lot of the people,” Serena said. “It’s time for it to be gone so they have their peaceful neighborhood back again.”

We’re told the alligator was illegally released into the water. Officials are asking anyone with information to give them a call.

The rescue group ‘One Dog at a Time’ is now trying to get permission to capture the reptile.
