Community celebrates Elk McKean’s victories

More than 500 people packed the Johnsonburg Fire Hall Thursday night to support the Elk McKean All Stars on their trip to the Junior World Series.

“The support from the community means everything,” said Assistant Coach, Russ Transue. “The community always backs the youth of this town full force.”

“It’s a really good feeling having all the people from the community out here to support you,” said player, Camron Marciniak. “It’s really cool.”

After winning the district, state and regional championship titles, the All Stars will be representing the east at the Junior World Series in Taylor, Michigan.

For many of the players, they’re still processing the victories that got them there.

“I just really can’t believe it’s happening, said player Aiden Zimmerman. “Like I never thought we’d make it this far, but it happened.”

“I really don’t know how to feel yet,” said player Caden Smiley. “It’s just amazing.”

And while they’ll be playing more than 300 miles away, they have a proud community backing them at home.

Once the team gets to the world series, they’ll traded in their Elk McKean uniforms for navy and white East Jerseys, and played their first game on Sunday at 11 a.m.
