A local firefighter has been arrested and is facing felony charges for theft and fraud.
The Lawrence Township Police Department conducted an investigation into the misuse of Lawrence Township funds by the Chief of the Hyde Volunteer Fire Company.
The investigation found that Fire Chief Shane Ryan Nevling, 35, was using Lawrence Township credit cards for gas and diesel fuel for his personal car and his family member’s cars.
According to court documents, he purchased nearly $600 worth of fuel using township funds.
Police say the transactions occurred at Pacific Pride, JJ Powell Fuel along Route 322 and the Sheetz on Nichols street in Clearfield.
Police also say he was caught using another firefigher’s code when paying for the gas.
Documents reveal Nevling used department funds to pay for fuel numerous times between September and December of last year.
Nevling faces charges like theft by unlawful taking and identity theft.
Nevling was arrested Thursday and is being held in the Clearfield County Jail on $25,000 bail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for January 16.
