ST. MARYS, Pa. (WTAJ) — The City of St. Marys is asking for ideas from residents as the Parks and Recreation Department unifies the park system.
The city will be releasing a survey on May 1 so residents can provide feedback on what they want to see in the city’s parks.
“We want to know what’s going to bring people back to live, work and play in St. Marys, Pennsylvania,” parks and rec manager Jim Wolf said. “I think it’s important their feedback comes back to us so we know what direction they want to go.”
The survey will be distributed at a community forum May 1 at city hall beginning at 6:30 p.m. The survey will also be made availble to take online.
While looking for community feedback, the parks department is also trying to unify the park system.
“We’ve always been known as Memorial Park and Benzinger Park, and a lot of the programs are run at each park,” Wolf said. “This year we wanted to make sure we got full use of all of our six parks.”
The St. Marys parks and recreation board added on park directors and a coordinator to unify the parks.
These members will work together to coordinate events at the different parks throughout the year.
The first event planned– an easter egg hunt for kids and teens at memorial park saturday.
The parks board wants to find ways to incorporate activities for both the young and elderly, and plan to keep the parks open longer this year.
