The owner of Bob’s Army and Navy in Clearfield said because of chronic wasting disease, his business is taking a hit.

“In the last several years or more, I’ve noticed a big decline in hunting population, and with decline in hunting population, we’re not doing as well,” Bob Grimminger said.

Grimminger said this decline has a lot to do with chronic wasting disease.

Last week, the state department of agriculture announced a deer on a hunting preserve near Curwensville tested positive for the disease.

This puts restrictions on hunters in the area to prevent the disease from spreading, but it also means hunters can’t use certain tools they’re used to taking advantage of.

Now with a positive CWD case in Clearfield County, Grimminger said he has a number of products that won’t sell as much.

“A lot of the attractants that we sell here, we’re not going to be able to sell that many of them, so there’s a lot issues with the CWD affecting my business,” he said.

Grimminger said a positive case of chronic wasting disease can impact the entire county because hunting attracts many people to the area.
