People waited in line for hours for St. Vincent de Paul’s Annual Christmas giveaway.

 

Sister Paula DelGrosso, Director of St. Vincent de Paul, said the community donated new toys and clothing for those needing a helping hand.

 

“We’re very very blessed to have the community that we do. They’re very supportive of the people that come here, and the people that come here are really appreciative,” DelGrosso said.

 

 

Sister Paula said seeing people lined up outside her soup kitchen brings her a mix of emotions.

 

“You’re sad to see that people have to be in circumstances that are less fortunate than a lot of other people. But at the same time, there’s a joy, and we tell this to our volunteers and to our benefactors. There’s a joy that we should all feel in that we are helping to build them up,” DelGrosso said.

 

The most joy she gets from her service is watching people transform right in front of her eyes.

 

“You can see them being transformed. Different people come in, and they say, ‘Wow.Look how respectful they are,” and they say ‘thank you’ anytime people help them , so that’s the joy that we get,” DelGrosso said.

 

Sister Paula said she loves seeing people come in and not just respect each other, but respect themselves.
