LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ)– A man is in jail after a police pursuit that led to two crashes involving police cars Saturday night.

According to police, just before 8 p.m. Saturday a Pennsylvania State Police trooper attempted to stop a car on Interstate 80 Eastbound.

Police say that car didn’t stop and instead exited the interstate onto State Route 879– heading into Lawrence Township.

Two Lawrence Township police officers were able to find the car. That’s when the suspect hit a police vehicle.

During the chase another Lawerence Township police car was involved in a crash with an uninvolved vehicle.

The driver of the univolved vehcile received serious injuries.

The crash is under investigation.

The chase ended on Independent Road in Bradford Township when the suspect’s vehicle overturned.

The two people inside the car fled the scene.

Police say later that night, the suspects– identified as Shawn Shipton and Stephanie Dempsey– called state police from Sapp Brothers Truck Stop in Lawrence Township.

Police say Shipton said he fled because he did not want to go back to state prison for speeding on a suspended license.

He is charged for fleeing and attempting to elude police.

Dempsey was released and isn’t facing charges.
