A charity is helping the State College Food Bank, with some creative cans.
‘Canstruction’ is a charity that sets up an art competition on display at the Nittany Mall.
Six teams built structures using only cans, which are ultimately donated to the food bank.
Last year the food bank helped over 700 families.
Lisa Hayes, chairperson for ‘Canstruction,’ said the art is intended to grab your attention.
“And then I hope that they take pause for a moment and say wait a minute, why are we doing this why are they built out of cans? And ask those questions and explore it just a little deeper. And hopefully that brings up the issue of hunger and helps educate the community in that way,” Hayes said.
This project collected nearly 14,000 cans.
Hayes said they’re excited to make this an annual event in State College.
