Senator Bob Casey is calling this GOP Tax Bill a “corporate give away.” On the flip side, republicans say the proposed tax cuts will relieve the burden on the middle class.
Majority Leader Mitch McConnell took to Twitter to applaud the GOP’s proposed tax bill. He says that tax cuts will help keep more money in the pockets of middle class families and support the American that he claims were forgotten in the past decade.
Senator Casey says he’s been red-lining all of his concerns with the bill- starting with where he says the GOP will plan to try and make up the revenues lost with all the cuts.
He said, “Decimating Medicaid and cutting Medicare by a lot. So a trillion and a half dollars worth of cuts to Medicare and Medicaid to pay for this give-away. That hurts rural areas that depend on a rural hospital for both good healthcare and employment. “
Casey says republicans refused to work in a bipartisan way to partner corporate tax cuts to aide business with lowering the burden on the middle class. He claims that corporate tax cuts don’t lead to job creation or a raise in wages for the middle class.
He explained, “Not just give a tax cut to a corporation that gives it to its ceo or top executives and the workers never see it. We know in the last couple of years that corporate profits have doubled, and we haven’t seen a rise in wages.”
Advisor to the President Ivanka Trump says that this bill’s focus was to bring relief to middle income families and help American businesses able to compete globally.
She said, “We are seeking to achieve middle income tax relief, that is core to admin legislation that is the legislative priority from which bill was built.”
The bill also includes the elimination of certain tax deductions such as medical expenses and college tuition which Casey believes will directly hurt middle to low income families.
