Cambria County War Memorial tightening security

The Cambria County War Memorial is tightening security.

The arena, now called 1st Summit Arena @ Cambria County War Memorial, plans to add new security features including barriers on the sidewalk and walk-through metal detectors.

The upgrades will cost about $50,000, partially funded by grants.

The arena’s managing company, SMG, also manages the Manchester Arena in the United Kingdom that was the target of a terrorist attack.

SMG officials are upgrading security at all of their facilities.

“It will be different for the fan experience coming in, but it will be for their safety and the safety of everyone,” said Steve St. John, the general manager of 1st Summit Arena @ Cambria County War Memorial.

Arena officials hope to install the new security measures by the Tomahawks home opener on October 14th.
