PORTAGE, CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — Officials in Cambria county are encouraging younger people to get out and vote in upcoming elections.
President Commissioner Tom Chernisky hosted an event at Portage High School in hopes of rallying young voters to get registered.
Chernisky spoke to the senior class about the importance of having their voices heard.
Some students we spoke with say they are already registered and want others their age to do the same.
“We don’t have any right to complain about the policy decision that are made unless we’re out there putting our opinions in with everyone else’s,” Summer Viscusi, Senior, registered voter.
“Very, very important because we are the ones who are making the decisions for our futures and if we want our futures to be better, we have to have our input into them and people don’t really realize that, because our future is in our hands because we are young,” Hannah Papcun, Senior, registered voter.
A reminder for all voters that the last day to register for the may municipal primary is April 22nd.
