The Cambria County Humane Society will re-open Saturday.
It’s currently closed, after a puppy tested positive for the parvo virus. The disease causes weakness, weight loss, and vomiting in dogs.
We’re told the 5-month-old puppy with parvo virus was brought in earlier this week from the Hornerstown area.
The staff is disinfecting the building and quarantined that puppy, which is now taking medicine to treat the virus.
Workers say they’ve taken precautions to clean the shelter and feel it’s safe to reopen Saturday.
“We pretty much just sanitized everything with bleach for now,” said Kendall Page, Humane Society of Cambria County. “We really made sure we cleaned it really good. We’re really just taking all the steps possible so that we can effectively get rid of parvo and cure our shelter of it.”
The shelter will open at noon Saturday. Workers say their rabies clinic will also run as usual at the shelter Saturday morning from 9 a.m. until noon.
