A fire completely destroyed the 1 Stop gas station convenient store on Main Street in Reynoldsville Tuesday afternoon.
The call came in before 2:30 p.m.
The initial report was of smoke coming from the furnace.
Reynoldsville Fire Chief Darren Scolese said when crews arrived on scene, heavy smoke was coming from the roof of the building.
There were no injuries. All employees and customers were out by the time they called 911.
The chief said more than 70 firefighters from 7 different departments responded.
“I really think it could’ve been a lot worse. but the guys knowing what they’re doing and knowing the job that they did, held it to the area that was burning when we got here,” Chief Scolese said.
Maintenance was being done on the convenience store’s furnace just prior to the call.
The state fire marshal has been called in to investigate if the furnace was the cause of the fire.
The owner of 1 Stop said he has contacted insurance and plans to rebuild.
