Borough creates digital brochure

The Bellefonte Chamber of Commerce said the area thrives on preserving its history, but it also wants to boost the local economy.

A new video highlights all the borough has to offer.

The project was spearheaded by the Chamber and created with funds raised over the years.

Gary Hoover, Executive Director of the Bellefonte Chamber of Commerce said “we have so much going on here, that maybe someone doesn’t know all about it.”

The video features seasonal events and notes unique architecture.

Gary Hoover hopes locals get excited and tourists get curious.

“We have people drop in off Route 80 or Route 99 because they see ‘Historic Bellefonte,'” Hoover said.

People like the Mussers who made their way from Virginia to visit family in Centre County.

Lia Musser, 11, said  “it’s a really fun place, and you can feed the ducks and sometimes the ducks will eat from your hand and that’s really fun.”

Local businesses appreciate support from the borough.

Loren Stamm, manager of Wine and Cafe on the Park, said advertisements and marketing can get pricey, but this project can help boost the overall local economy.

“It’s a small town feel, you come in here it’s very welcoming, you know you’re family. You’re not just a customer, you’re family,” Stamm said.

Stamm hopes the digital brochure attracts new shop owners and reels in more business.

“Bellefonte is a historical town and we want to preserve that here,” Stamm said.

“People appreciate their roots, where they came from,” Hoover said.”

And Lia’s grandma, Carole, said promoting preservation is crucial for future generations.

“Because if you don’t preserve it then you lose it completely and that’s not fun, this is the fun you need to know the history,” Carole said.

Hoover said next the chamber will work on re-vamping the borough’s website.
