TYRONE, BLAIR COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — Kindergarten and first grade students are encouraged to continue reading through the summer by hopping on the Tyrone Elementary Book Bus.
The bus travels around the borough every Wednesday during the summer.
Kids can sit on the bus and read for an hour, or check out books to take home.
The assistant principal at the elementary school, Amanda Kutz, said it’s important for kids to continue reading, even after the school year ends.
“Once a child gets behind in reading it’s very difficult to catch them back up and especially in the summer when they’re not in school, and they’re not getting reading every day in school, it’s really important to spend some time in the summer to make reading available to your kids,” she said.
The program also added a stop at Reservoir Park, so anyone who doesn’t live in the borough can still enjoy the books.
