BLAIR COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — Several Blair County communities will go under a boil water advisory on Monday.
The Freedom Township Water & Sewer Authority will begin replacing the Master Water Meter at Dunnings Highway and Old Route 22 around midnight on May 13, 2019.
The work is expected to wrap up around 5:00 a.m. the next day.
It will cause a temporary loss of positive water pressure in Freedom Township, Newry Borough and parts of Blair Township, which means the water for those communities are more likely to become contaminated.
After May 13th, folks should only use boiled or bottled water for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth, and food preparation until further notice.
After water service is restored to all Freedom Township Water & Sewer Authority customers, they will collect and analyze multiple water samples to make sure that the water supply is free of bacterial contaminants.
Once those tests come back negative, they will tell all customers that you no longer need to boil your water.
General guidelines on ways to lessen the risk of infection are available from EPA’s Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1-(800)-426-4791.
