Military veterans, trained as medics, might have an easier time getting a civilian job, under a bill passed Tuesday, by the Pennsylvania House.

The legislation would require the State Department of Health, which certifies EMTs and paramedics,  to strongly consider a vet’s military education, training, and experience, when fulfilling requirements for professional credentials.

Representative Jesse Topper, who sponsored the legislation, says it would also help address the shortage of EMT’s and paramedics.

The bill, which passed the house unanimously, now goes to the Senate for consideration.
